# Profile Tool

Left Click on the **Profile** tool button to begin creating a cross sectional view of your pointcloud.

Then, while viewing your pointcloud in a top-down view, **left click** at the starting point of the profile/cross section. Move your mouse to the end point of the profile/cross section, and **left click** again.

Now that your start and end points have been specified, **move your mouse side-to-side** to specify the depth of the profile. **Left click** to set depth of profile

A **green bar will be displayed** at the top of the window:

Left click on the "[**+ Data View Right**](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/lidarmill-desktop/user-interface/data-viewer#+-data-view-right)" or "[**+ Data View Down**](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/lidarmill-desktop/user-interface/data-viewer#+-data-view-down)" button to create another viewing window to the side of the current viewing window, or below the current window.

**Hover your mouse over the new window**, the green bar is displayed at the top of it:

**Left click** within new view window to view profile. You can edit the color of the profile by left clicking on the profile color.

You can edit depth of the profile by inputting a new value within the "Depth" field:

When [GCPs are uploaded](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/lidarmill-desktop/post-processing/workflow-kk/uploading-files/ground-control-points-gcps) and [enabled within the project window](https://docs.phoenixlidar.com/lidarmill-desktop/user-interface/windows/project-management-window/ground-control), you can visualize them within the profile view.

Click the Measurement Triangle Tool to create a triangle with side measurements labeled using two mouse clicks within the profile view.

Use the **+** and **-** Tool to move or **walk** your cross section to the left or right of the current location:

Open 2 Views, then enable Target for Profile Tool within view 2. Next, when you create a profile in view 1, it will show automatically in view 2 (without an additional click).
